The challenge here is to use the date and share some part of your WIP based on the date.
Toady is January 28, 2015. 1 + 28 = 29 so page 29, 15 lines for you to read.
The kiss is all over the internet and Emma has been put on leave from her teaching job.
Emma stamped her foot. “Be serious Flynn! My principal forced me to take a leave of absence, as of this afternoon.”
“So you haven’t lost your job yet?” Flynn inquired.
“After today’s photo, I’m not so sure.”
Flynn paced, running his fingers through his hair. He stopped in front of Emma. “I thought about what to do on the way here. There’s only one solution. We have to pretend we’re engaged. I won’t have your reputation besmirched for my lapse of judgement.”
“Engaged? Are you crazy? That will only make it worse.”
“How? Those pictures make it appear that you’re, you’re..”
“Wanton? Throwing myself at you?”
“I wasn’t thinking in such words but they work. If we’re engaged it will appear as if we were so in love, that I couldn’t keep my hands off you.”
“I want this to just all go away, Flynn. I want my life back and I don’t want you in it.”
Emma put her hands to her face.
“I’m the one who got us into this unholy situation.” Flynn took her hands away from her face.
Emma looked up at Flynn. “I thought that too, but I dressed the part and I agreed to do what Jenny suggested.”
Dang…I wonder what Jenny suggested and just how bad the photos are that her principal put her on leave.
I have to say, fake-married is one of my favorite plot devices. This looks like it’s about to get reeeeeeal interesting.
I was wondering exactly how racy these pics are to cause a leave of absence, too! Or what other circumstances might be contributing to that reaction. Interesting indeed!
Not terribly bad but it is a conservative school. Fun to write tho! Thanks Kate.
Aah. *shakes fist at conservative school… and then stops, because a fun story is probably going to come out of this*
Photo wasn’t too bad but they connected! lol Thanks Amy.
LOL Kate. As a teacher for 30+ years had to have a story with a teacher!
great job on your goals! looks like things are about to get very interesting for Emma and Flynn!
Thanks Fallon. It has been fun writing their story.
Ooooh, I love a good pretend engagement plot. That must’ve been quite the photo!
Thanks Abigail. Yes – they definitley responded to each other!
Congratulations on your goals! And I’m another one who loves that kind of plot, particularly when it’s got one character going “no way!” like Jenny. Poor girl, doesn’t look like she’s going to get her wish for a Flynn-free life any time soon…
…Jenny? I’m sure I told my brain to write Emma…
Though I’m sure Jenny’s life isn’t going to be Flynn-free in the future either, especially if she got Emma into this mess in the first place!
Thanks Pax. Does make for complications that’s for sure.
Oh Jenny, what did you get your friend into? And poor Flynn, because now Emma wants him gone, and I like Flynn because…well…because his name is Flynn. ;p
Thanks Kath. It’s funny how names come to you. The first scene just appeared and the names were already there. They wanted their story told.
Ooh, interesting snippet! Looks like you’re having a good week, well done!
Thanks Marina. Getting lost in a story is the best for sure.
I love the fake engagement idea. Such a fun trope in romance. I’m wondering about the events that led up to this point–just how racy was that kiss, and what led to it? Great excerpt!
Thanks Denise. The outfit, the attraction, Flynn’s notoriety to a certain degree – all had a part.
Oh sniffles. 😦 Poor Emma. I want to give her a hug and tell her we all do less-than-well-thought-through things sometimes and I’m sorry hers was so public. And warn her about Flynn. He’s a sneaky one, he is. I’m guessing that engagement won’t stay fake forever.
Fora while anyway. Thanks ReGi
Oh, definitely sounds like a fun story…can’t wait to read more. 🙂
Thanks Cindy. Will post more this week.
fake-relationship is also one of my favorite plot points, especially in fanfiction. Very interested to see what got them into this situation and of course how they’re going to get out of it!
Thanks Adrian. I’ll post more on Wed.
