The second week of Susanna Leonard Hill’s “Eenie Meenie Miney Mini Writing Challenge” is almost over and I finally settled on a nursery rhyme.
As Susanna describes it “Eenie Meenie Miney Mini is a writing challenge for anyone who needs a little boost or a little encouragement to get writing. . . or maybe just a little fun during this bizarre stay-at-home”

This week’s challenge was to write from another point of view, using a children’s nursery rhyme. It took me awhile to finally settle on “Hey Diddle Diddle”
Here it is as a reminder:
Hey Diddle, Diddle!
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon;
The little dog laughed
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.
I imagined the moon reacting to the cow’s jumping ability. Here is my version (at 64 words):
Hey Diddle Diddle
“What is that thing? Another rocket? Another asteroid?”
“It’s heading straight for me! Stop! Turn around! Don’t get any closer!”
“Those hooves look dangerous. No closer! STOPPPPP!”
“OW! Now you’ve done it. You caused a crater in my nose! “
“Good riddance. Go away and stay away. What a ridiculous creature that was. Who ever heard of a cow in space?”
Hilarious! Great job!
Thanks Linda – fun to do.
